Virgin River Falls at Zion National Park near Springdale, Utah is an easy 0.2-mile out-and-back walk that leads to the short but scenic 5-foot tall waterfall, Virgin River Falls.
Walk Description
This short walk begins at the Canyon Junction shuttle stop and follows Zion Canyon Scenic Drive north to reach a sign labeled "River Access" with an arrow pointing toward the Virgin River. Hikers will follow a short sandy trail downhill before backtracking downstream to reach a view of the waterfall. At the end of the trail, hikers will reach Virgin River Falls, which is at least 50-feet wide (or more) and about 5-feet tall in total. This short, but scenic waterfall cascades down the Virgin River with Zion canyon with its backdrop.
Note that you can also enjoy this waterfall from the road from a different perspective.
Fees
Zion National Park has a $35/week entry fee as of September 2023. Visitors are highly encouraged to purchase an annual National Parks pass before their trip to reduce entry fees (especially if you're passing through multiple parks) and to also speed-up the insanely-long line that leads into the park.
Parking
Before blindly getting directions to this trailhead, please plan your trip to Zion by finding out more information on this Zion National Parks Shuttle Services page. If you wish to park NEAR this trailhead, you can head to the parking
coordinates provided and look for a parking spot along the road which is
open year-round to vehicles at a first-come first-serve basis - then hike up the road for a slightly-longer walk. Hikers cannot drive to this trailhead during busy season
and must park at the Zion Visitor Center in Springdale, Utah OR at the parking coordinates provided, which are located outside of the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. From the visitors center, hikers will find free shuttle buses that drop hikers off at the trailhead.
If you wish to park AT this
trailhead, you can only do so when shuttle services are not running
during quiet seasons (i.e. Winter).
Pets
Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
