The Pine Bend Loop Trail at Pine Bend in West Olive, Michigan is an easy 1.7-mile loop that runs along Pigeon River.
To properly follow this trail and the description, check out the Pine Bend trail map first. This hike encompasses the western-most trails at Pine Bend and follows the main trail in, heading east, and passes trail junction #23. At trail junction #23, this recording stays to the north and passes trail junction #22, #21, and #20 before reaching a fork in the trail.
After hiking past junction #20, hikers will want to stay left and head toward junction #19. At trail junction #19, take a right-hand turn and hike down the small spur trail to a vista point with benches and a view of Pigeon River. At this point, the hike heads back toward parking (take junction #19 to #20), but hike south at trail junction #20.
On the hike back, the trail will pass trail junction #25 before heading back north toward the second junction on the hike in - #22. Follow the trail west until you reach the parking lot to complete the loop for a 1.7-mile hike.
Facilities: Pit bathroom at both trailheads.
Pets: Dogs welcome if on leash and their waste must be carried out by the hiker;. Pet waste bags available from self-serve stand.
Prohibited: Alcohol, fires, and biking are
strictly prohibited.
About Pine Bend: Pine Bend is part of the Ottawa County Pigeon River Greenway ad contains over 200 acres of wood and wetlands along the Pigeon River.
There are more than six miles of trails for hiking and cross country skiing that meander through bottomland and upland forest, old pine plantations and down to the river. Trails connect to Hemlock Crossing on the east end of this park.
Pine Bend is also the site of the historic Weaver House,
a restored 1901 home and former speakeasy that is available for
reservation/rental for business meetings, weddings graduation parties,
and the like.
